Nicolás is a lawyer from Universidad de la Sabana in Colombia, and holds a postgraduate diploma in International Business Law from Universidad de los Andes also in Colombia.
He is a founding partner of AGT Attorneys and currently holds the position of Managing Partner. In his early years of law practice, he worked as an in-house attorney in a foreign investment firm for Private Equity. At AGT Attorneys, he has been general attorney of national and international companies and has also been the primary or substitute legal representative for legal matters of renowned companies.
In 2011, together with several other partners, he founded the law firm AGT Attorneys, where he has served as the financial and commercial manager. In addition to the aforementioned role, he continued practicing law parallel to his managing functions as a litigation attorney in the areas of corporate law, unfair competition, corporate criminal law, arbitration and alternative mechanisms of dispute resolution.
In 2014, after the incorporation of new partners to the firm, he became General Managing Partner, focusing his work on client growth, quality and obtaining results at AGT Attorneys. By this date, he has already been appointed as general attorney for legal matters and primary or alternate legal representative of various companies from different economic sectors.
As of 2016, after the constant growth of AGT Attorneys, he became the Managing Partner of the firm. Through this role he focuses on the management of the corporation, the legal services provided, supervision of financial and commercial matters of our company, among others.
Currently, he continues with his functions as Managing Partner and advises from his position to managing bodies of corporations such as boards of directors and shareholder meeting to structure legal strategies in different industries. Among the industries where Nicolás offers his legal advice, it is important to highlight sectors such as: pharmaceutical, cosmetics, services, telecommunications, transportation, mining, medical and scientific cannabis, energy production, mass consumption, retail, food and beverages, textiles and foreign trade.
Thus, Nicolás is the legal attorney and representative for foreign investors in the process of foreign branch incorporation, acquisition, merger and division, dissolution and liquidation, and foreign direct investment. In the area of unfair competition, he has led numerous amount of litigations highlighting some emblematic cases in the transportation sector such as "Taxis Libres Cotech Vs UBER" and "Transportes Armenia Vs Expreso Palmira". In the veterinary industry sector he defended the interests of the company "Vetanco Vs Alimco" SAS. Next, in the furniture and decoration industry, "Orthobed SAS Vs Dormilife de Colombia SAS". Finally, In the education industry, in the litigation between "Fundación San Jorge Vs San George School Pereira SAS", among others.
In the area of Corporate Law he has represented clients such as Concentrix, Nivea, Nutrabiotics, Novasoft, Nikolucas, Crawford, Telnorm, Medical Green, and much others.
Consequently, in the area of Litigation he has been in charge of defending the interests of companies such as: Ecoanimal Health, Nivea, NewLab Nutrition, Mc Cann World Group, Efitech, Balboa Bank & Trust, among others.
As a Business Law specialist, he advises companies and individuals in tax planning and tax litigation, both before administrative and judicial stages, defending the interests of his clients in lawsuits against those entities in charge of tax administration.
During his professional experience, he has represented foreign investors in mergers and acquisitions of medical cannabis companies, acting as general attorney for these companies. He is also an expert in regulatory matters of medical and scientific cannabis in Colombia, and in the regulations applicable to this sector.
In the area of medical and scientific cannabis he is the legal attorney and external consultant for companies such as: CBD Global, Diosa Verde SAS, among others.
In the Intellectual Property Law area, he has handled the registration process of around 700 trademarks and patents before the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) and different IP offices worldwide in Latin America. He has also managed registrations procedures before the World Intellectual Property Organization—WIPO, in application of international trademark and patent treaties such as the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and the Madrid Protocol for the international registration of trademarks.
For several years, Nicolás has been a pioneer in the establishment of the practice area of New Technologies for Life, specifically in the legal advice of surrogacy processes in Colombia. As a result, he has represented different parties involved in the surrogacy process and contracts, like the biological parents, gestational carriers, fertility clinics, and donors of biological material. Through his legal services, he provides structure to the different contracts and legal procedures in the early stages of assisted gestation until the culmination of the civil and immigration registration procedures of this process. Additionally, Nicolás also represents the parties in litigation proceedings before family judges when legal matters arise.
In addition to these areas of expertise, he also practices in litigation and dispute resolution in corporate criminal law, labor law, corporate disputes, reorganization and insolvency, intellectual property, civil and commercial law disputes.
Nicolás is recognized for finding solutions to companies' legal obstacles at an experienced level, and for having successfully advised, to date, close to 1,000 companies and individuals, both nationally and internationally, in his areas of practice.
